Review of Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003) by Flaviana S — 11 Feb 2010
Nice finish to the El Mariachi trilogy. Rodriguez has honed his stylistic cinematography here and presents El with a bit more meat on the bone than Desperado. Unfortunately, he has overcooked the story and not only is it convoluted with so many double crosses, but quite frankly has the old problem of too many characters, so they have too little screentime to care about them.
Depp and Rourke are especially underused, and Defoe is supposed to be the main villain, but you hardly see him. Got a little confused over seeing Danny Trejo who got killed in Desperado, but plays a different character here!
