Review of Once Upon a Time in China II (1992) by Eric N — 05 Jul 2011
Triumphant sequel. like good sequels all do, this movie benefits from a familiarity with the characters and not doing an origin story, and it's also a fish-out-of-water entry in the series which brings a sense of constant surprise.
Dark & slow, the dry 2nd act builds to an astonishing double-climax!
It's definitely less enjoyable than the 1st movie as it's less pretty on the eyes, but the action is phenomenal again, demanding slow-motion viewing it's so legendary. I pity those who haven't witnessed Jet Li vs Donnie Yen in this movie!
