Review of Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011) by Macky S — 17 Sep 2012
Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is about some police officers who have a man named Kenan (Firat Tanis), a murder suspect, in custody. They drive around in the middle of nowhere to different wells trying to find where Kenan buried the body of the man he killed.
Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is a really good film with great acting and direction. The director, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, takes a lot of beautiful long shots in this film especially ones of the police driving through the night.
The acting is great by Muhammet Uzuner who plays Doctor Cemal, Yilmaz Erdogan who plays Commissar Naci and Firat Tanis who plays Suspect Kenan. Taner Birsel, who was the best in the film, plays Prosecutor Nusret.
The one thing I didn't like about the film is that when I walked out of the theatre, I wasnâ(TM)t sure what I had just seen. There are a lot of unanswered questions so at the end of it you don't really know what happened and I found that a little frustrating. Maybe the director Nuri Bilge Ceylan wanted people to really think about it and if thatâ(TM)s the case he succeeded because I can't stop thinking about it. Besides that I loved it and highly recommend it.
