Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Jessica D — 18 Dec 2009
On The Waterfront is my all time favorite movie. I love Brando and Malden together, and this is their best, in my opinion. I had enjoyed the movie for years when I happened upon a bio of Elia Kazan, the director, who was involved in McCarthy's anti-communist activities in the 50s, and was criticized for 'naming names.
' Allegedly, this movie was his defense to those criticism. That spoiled it a little for me; however, it is still a remarkable piece of cinema with a stellar (pardon the pun) performance from Brando, and his supporting cast of Maldon, Saint and Cobb were excellent too.
