Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Lenny G — 31 Jul 2010
The education continues. Finally got to show Genevieve this incredible film. I believe this is the 9th time I've seen it. She declared it, "Possibly the best movie I've ever seen." The kid learns well.
No special effects, just astonishing storytelling, acting, directing, cinematography and music. Brando is a miracle, but he has great support from Eva Marie Saint, Karl Malden, Rod Steiger and Lee J. Cobb.
The film is so rich in theme and content. Brando's Terry Malloy must wrestle with his conscience and ultimately finds the courage to go against his brother and the mob, while fighting for his compatriots at the dock.
Surprisingly, it is also a very romantic film. The growth of Terry and Edy's love is as moving as the story of Terry's redemption.
