Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Aaron A — 05 Dec 2010
I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender.
A mobster has took control of the shipyards in a small port town in New Jersey. one man feels guilty and tries to put a stop to it.
An early crime film, Waterfront is now a must see simply for that reason, its a crime masterpiece that was filmed before the Godfather, but it also a great film with one of the most memorable scripts of any crime saga.
The performances are what make this film though, its fun to see Marlon play with every little prop he can get his hands on, and Eva Marie Saint pulls on my heartstrings. The two main actors give such a heartfelt performance that the film's plot becomes somewhat personal to the viewer.
I have one complaint, well not really a complaint as its a genetic issue and couldn't be helped (it rhymes with "hose"), but otherwise its a fantastic film.
