Review of On the Silver Globe (1989) by Robert H — 18 Jun 2008
A damaged masterpiece... the look and mood suggest the grandeur of DUNE crossed with the mood of STALKER...
The film was shut down by the Polish government before it was completely shot and sets, costumes destroyed.
Some ten years later, the filmmaker manages to get hold of the shot footage, and releases it, with narration filling in the holes of things that were either lost or didn't get shot.
As a result, the plot is slightly more incomprehensible than in other Zulawski films... and if you equate state of the art special effects when you hear the words 'science fiction', well, you're going to be disappointed, too.
Worth a look for the adventurous who aren't scared off by length, subtitles, or frenzied performances.
