Review of On the Rocks (2020) by Laurentv — 01 Nov 2020
In what possible list of definitions can "On the Rocks" be labelled a "comedy"? To be clear, I prefer a subtle bit of sophisticated humour to the turd-tossing slapsticks that dominate modern movies.
But this movie wasn't funny. A meandering sort of sitcom plot (again, lacking "com") they stretched and padded out from 25 minutes to 96. Most of the reviews that praise the film seem to be more in love with the concept and idea of Bill Murray than actually watching the show and seeing what he actually does, which is pretty much a mellow, aged, by-the-numbers effort.
It is simply a snooze of a movie, without highs or lows, laughs or tears.
