Review of On the Road (2014) by Alex F — 08 Jun 2012
On The Road is my favorite book. I love it because I love Kerouac's voice, his descriptions of all the events that occurred through his and Cassidy's pursuits of freedom.
On The Road is one of my least favorite films. I in fact hate it. I hate it because it will ruin the Beats for many who have never read them.
I don't want to review plots or characters because I wish to forget this film, but the prime moment when I turned from feeling optimistic to murderous was when Kristen Stewart (who is supposed to be a minor character) talked about how she wanted a family and kids. She sounded like Kristen Stewart trying to play Kristen Stewart trying to play a 1950s version of Kristen Stewart. This movie should've never had big name Hollywood stars. This movie should never have been over two hours long. This movie should've been three minutes long, a black screen with neat Helvetica stating 'This book should never be made into a film. It's a book of the mind. Of Kerouac's mind. One can only appreciate it through his voice. So go and read it.'.
