Review of On the Road (2014) by James O — 22 Jun 2013
Not like I was there, but read on the Road, watch the Ginsberg, Cassady, Kerouac clips (what little there are), the movie is not Kerouac, is not Cassady . . . at all. The actor that plays Burroughs; Vigo Mortensen does a superb role.
That all being said, for an actor to really play a convincing Cassady or Kerouac it would take tremendous overwhelming art and skill; such odd charactars can be done, look at Johnny Depp in Leavig Las Vegas even more bizarre yet he did it.
Frankly the movie is watered down and made for mass consumption, but it falls way short of capturing Kerouac and Cassady. Entertaining and interesting for yuppies and normal people and thats it.
