Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Todd H — 06 Aug 2012
Yes, even without Sean Connery, this is my favorite. "Goldfinger" and "From Russia With Love" come really close, but this entry has all of the great Bond elements while also personalizing 007, making him more likeable and, thus, more heroic than ever.
Telly Savalas makes a great Blofeld, Dianna Rigg invests the viewer in a Bond girl that one believes 007 would turn in his license to kill for, and the hugely underrated George Lazenby creates a Bond who is deadly, athletic, witty, and human.
(The last scene in the film is easily the most poignant in the series-- one wonders how Connery would have handled the scene.) The ski chase scenes are also the most exciting and inspired scenes in the entire series.
