Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by William M — 28 Oct 2008
OHMSS is the sixth film in the Bond series, and the first that had a different leading man. Sean Connery grew increasingly tired of the role and bowed out. Australian born George Lazenby stepped into the shoes of 007 (for this outing only) and given his lack of previous acting experience, does a good job in the lead role.
From a physical perspective, Lazenby was more than capable of holding his own. The producers wisely paired him up with a seasoned actress in the form of Diana Rigg (easily one of the best Bond women to have graced the series) and Telly Salavas makes a worthy foe as Bond's arch nemesis Blofeld.
Wonderful location footage, impressive action scenes as well as a sense of romance and impending loss makes this a fine additonal to the franchaise....
