Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Derek L — 09 Apr 2011
A departure for the series not only because of new Bond George Lazenby, but in tone of the film. Bond is a little more business than pleasure, although he does get around with a few ladies in this one. Bond is on a mission to uncover a plan of his nemesis Blowfeld and in the process he falls in love with the beautiful Dutchess Tracy Di Vicenzo. While his mission doesn't go completely as planned, he does foil the bad guys and gets the girl(SPOILERS: She doesn't make to the honeymoon).
This film caught a lot of flack because of Lazenby replacing Connery. Seeing the film 40 years after it's release, it stands on it's own as a very enjoyable edition to the film series. Lazenby does an excellent job with the character. He adds his own charm to Bond especially when he's undercover as a geneologist. Plus, he handles the action scenes as well, if not better than Connery did. All in all one of the better films in the series.
