Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Colin F — 02 Nov 2011
This could possibly be the best James Bond Film of all time. It is certainly the best shot film in the series with some breathtaking scenery and shots, you really do feel like your watching an epic. The soundtrack is brilliant also, for me definitely John Barryâ(TM)s best score.
There are some great moments along the way with epic ski and car chases and a great battle towards the end, it feels like a proper 007 classic.
It might not be the strongest script but this is made up for with some great performances from Diana Rigg who is playing a different type of Bond Girl and Telly Savalis is excellent as Blofield with his dodgy German hench woman!
George Lazenby looks the part as 007 but there is no getting away from his bad acting with some proper cringey moments, but because it is a great film you kind of become amune to it after about an hour and he manages to pull off all his action scenes brilliantly, I actually would of liked to see him in another James Bond film.
To summarise a brilliant film, with an unexpected ending, the only Bond film not to have a happy ending, a unique and great entry in the series.
