Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Steven W — 30 Sep 2012
Despite no Connery and a decidedly different portrayal of the super spy, this film was extremely underrated upon its release. The films features wonderful performances by Telly Savalas as Blofeld and Diana Rigg as Tracy di Vicenzo.
Despite a slow and bit overlong first act, the film really takes off once Bond arrives at Piz Gloria and the many ski sequences, car chase, avalanche as well as the epic assault on Piz Gloria via helicopters and the classic bobsled chase all make for a truly remarkale and fun entry into the series.
The heartbreaking ending is performed wonderfully by Lazenby wo despite only performing as Bond one time, he truly leaves his mark on the series. Unfortunately the usual gadgets are virtually nonexistant and the series regulars (M, Q, and moneypenny) are reduced to mere cameo roles.
