Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Raji K — 10 Jan 2014
With On Her Majesy's Secret Service we get a great movie actually that has everything from stealth to well timed action sequences. The Skiing sequence was really entertaining and few other films have them now as well. The long pauses between them make them better. His relationship with Tracy is great and she plays the role really well and was one of the best Bond girls. The end with her being killed after the marriage was really one of the emotional sequences in the film and Bond's reaction of just initial denial was just fantastic. It is a shame that actually that Lazenby decided to not return as Bond since he played the character with a bit more humanity instead of complete suave and confidence like Connery. It was just a different approach that really did work for this movie.
Bond Girl - 5/5.
Tracy is one of the most interesting Bond films and probably the only one worthy of being his wife. She is independent, clever and full of spunk and she really has a great range while many of the past bond girls were clearly only around for looks.
Gadgets - 2/5.
Not the best one for this film, but this is explicable given the mission at hand.
Villains - 3/5.
Blofeld is back although as a different actor. This version is much more nimble and can take on much more action then the one we have in You Only Live Twice. I cannot agree that such a villain would do this much action of his own accord given his personality from the last film, but it works well enough in this movie.
Music 5/5.
One of my favorite themes in the series. The peppering in of Louis Armstrong was well timed throughout the film as well.
