Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Jake H — 03 Jan 2010
First of all I don't think Lazenby is all that bad, the film itself lets the man down.
Here is why:
-I understand if you can't get Donald Pleasence to play Blofeld but why does he not have the scarred eye? More importantly why does he NOT RECOGNISE JAMES BOND?!?!?!
-Of all the intolerable lines in James Bond films none is more contemptible than Lazenby's "this never happened to the other fella" directly to the audience!
-James Bond is a womanising, egotistical killer. If you are to dramatically deviate from this genre constant, lets say for example marry off James Bond, then one would assume a lot of character development is in order. Apparently that's not the case.
-In You Only Live Twice the soft spoken, cat loving Blofeld seemed hardly the type of person to escape via bobsled, nor the type to survive 3 close encounters with death for that matter.
