Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Daniel W — 15 Apr 2011
On Her Majesty's Secret Lazenby. James Bond faces off with Ernst Blofeld again, this time in the Swiss Alps. Strangely, neither one of them seems to remember the other from their face-to-face encounter in "You Only Live Twice". Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Bond doesn't look remotely like Sean Connery, and Blofeld now looks like Telly Savalas. (The continuity of these movies are really all over the map.).
"Secret Service" has a solid story, an awesome villain's lair/mountain chalet, and a memorably dark ending, but the gauzy montages with Bond and Diana Rigg mooning about are a bit much. Lazenby warms up to the role the more it went on, but apparently not enough to be given a second go at it.
