Review of On Golden Pond (1981) by Lee G — 25 Apr 2008
The performances of Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn are excellent. It looked fantastic. However, I was expecting a lot more from the story. I really wanted to love this movie, but instead I only liked it.
The dialogue is often great, but a lot of the time it resembles the play from which it was adapted (extended dialogue-heavy scenes). The father-daughter relationship seemed too easily resolved. I don't think it would have affected the story much if the whole father-daughter subplot was removed entirely.
