Review of On Golden Pond (1981) by Jim H — 19 Jul 2013
Touching story about an elderly bickering couple spending their summer in their New England country home. When their irresponsible daughter and her boyfriend go there for his birthday, they are asked to mind her teenage son Billy.
Graceful and decidedly quiet, this film is almost a hidden gem that comfortably takes its place among the best family drama films ever made. With powerhouse performances by the cast, watching Hepburn and Henry Fonda, the latter in his final role ever before his death, interact on screen is quite a treat, but credit also goes to tasteful screenplay by Ernest Thompson.
