Review of On Deadly Ground (1994) by Mark L — 26 Sep 2008
This movie is so terrible and so Poe-faced the entire time, it's hard to tell if if it's the sort of bad that transcends into good or if it's just plain bad. Seagal gets some cool shots of nature here and there, but this movie is laughably stupid.
It's portrayal of Native Americans, while not negative, is stereotypical and a bit condescending, and the action scenes are poorly staged. What I thought was funny is that a lot of directors have been speeding up film lately to give Seagal the illusion of being fast, but here he uses a lot of slow-mo on himself.
Ha! Props need to be given to Michael Caine, he does a good job with terrible dialogue, and the cameo by pre-Sling Blade Billy Bob Thornton is hilarious.
