Review of On Chesil Beach (2018) by Drew B — 13 Jun 2018
To the critics who didn't like this movie, I heartily give them a 1-finger salute. On Chesil Beach, IMHO, was the best movie I've seen so far in 2018. No film dances with so many different emotions: Humor, elegance, awkwardness, fear, unbridled joy, unspeakable pain.
If you aren't crying at parts of this film, you have no soul. Essentially, the film starts with a couple on honeymoon, filled with flashbacks as the moments of their lives led to this moment. And, I must warn, you'll feel your heart ripped out in parts.
Saoirse Ronan, again, is brilliant, and carries the emotional heft of the film on her back. The husband, played by Billy Howle, is a breakout star here. Beautiful film, I hope to see you again around Oscar time.
