This was a pleasant surprise. A well-acted and sensitive-but-honest look at how limiting education and experience of all things sexual can effect a newlywed couple on their wedding night, as well as the aftermath for those individuals.

Saoirse Ronan is one of the finest actresses of her generation, and though this is far from her best role, she brings a depth to her character that makes for the emotional anchor of the film.
