Review of Oliver! (1968) by Jared D — 19 May 2018
I LOVE musicals -- but this one left me really cold. The kid who played Oliver brought little to the role and he couldn't sing. Supporting cast such as Jack Wild and Oliver Reed are fine. This musical suffers from a common malady of 1960s musicals: putting in musical numbers every 8-10 minutes with little reference to the role the song plays in forwarding the plot, developing a character, or revealing some inner truth.
This has the effect of making this long film feel VERY long. Too bad.
