Review of Oldboy (2013) by Kilo D — 13 Dec 2013
Update: Just saw it. It's a mess but equally beautiful and unsettling - although, Obama's pal toned the material down, big time. And a different, more Hollywood-ized ending. Ah well, Brolin and Olson are tremendous and Sean Bobbit is simply . . . remarkable. It's worth a look as long as one isn't expecting anything other than a straight-up revenge thriller.
Spike Lee, despite being a racist and being pals with a serial killer (Obama), somehow manages to get some of the best people behind and in front of the camera working for him that, alas, makes the movie worth a watch - even if, in this case, it's a remake of an overrated (still pretty cool, tho) South Korean movie.
