Review of Oldboy (2003) by Frank C — 28 Oct 2014
Oldboy is a simply perfect thriller that makes full use of the genre and then some. It's hard to find something wrong with this movie, and believe me I've tried. While the violence and gore will definitely turn off many viewers, it is an indispensable part of Park Chan-wook's stylish and even beautiful shot making.
The performances of the actors is impeccable, in particular from the two leads. The action is both well shot and well coordinated. Rarely if ever have I found a more gripping climax to a film. Throw on top of that a killer soundtrack that upon listening after watching the film shows its indispensability.
The revenge story can be a hard one to tell, but Oldboy is surely one of the best.
