Review of Oldboy (2003) by Mayurakshi D — 30 Jun 2018
This movie was brutal and disturbing on so many levels. Choi Min-Sik was amazing as he went through the torture and realization of what has happened to him. The ending was like nothing I've ever seen before and was perfectly in keeping with the nightmare that is his life.
A near perfect Korean revenge film and one of Chan Wook Park's revenge-trilogy. I have absolutely no idea how Spike Lee can come close to matching the feeling of this film, my opinion is that the it can't be done for a North American audience.
Please, don't watch this film if you're squeamish or have a problem with extreme violence, subtitles or foreign films, it's not for you. Wait for Lee's watered down version... maybe.
