Review of Old Yeller (1957) by Louise T — 01 Sep 2010
My family just watched this on DVD tonight, and I can't believe I'd never seen this before. At least I don't remember watching it in my own childhood. I'd heard of it of course, knew that it was reportedly very sad.
It's such a wonderful old movie. Sure it's got swell, dated dialogue like "I'm hungry for a woman cooked meal", but it's much more than a nostalgia piece. It has a wonderful story of love, and the brutal nature of survival before the advent of modern medicine.
I thought it was great. My 9 year old son liked it as he likes all dog movies, but thought it was too sad to become one of his favourites.
