Review of Oklahoma! (1955) by Lobelia S — 02 Nov 2008
Good cinematic adaptation of this historically important and beautiful musical. "Oklahoma!" was the model for musical theater that followed: actually telling a story and having the singing and dancing being a character's response to a dramatic situation.
The singing in this version is great...it introduced Shirley Jones to movie-going America. By far the stand -out, though, was Agnes de Mille's choreography in the Dream Ballet -- it is nothing short of astonishing.
