Review of Okja (2017) by Garry A — 27 Jun 2017
I've been a massive fan of Jake Gyllenhaal for some time - followed pretty much every step in his career, and I can honestly say, I can't recall him ever being adorned in denim hot-pants, knee-high socks, and sporting a Magnum-esque porn-star moustache in any of his previous roles.
If anything, that is the least zany part of this performance - I'm talking Nic Cage in Vampire's Kiss level of over-acting insanity here. There is also some less important stuff dealt with in Bong Joon Ho's beautifully shot film, such as questioning corporate greed in the meat industry, GMO foods and treatment of factory farmed animals.
I kid of course. Netflix's original output continues to impress. The last 20 minutes of so, are as affecting as I have seen in any film for quite some time. Recommended.
