Review of Okja (2017) by Fromkanga — 25 Jul 2017
Okja was a good movie, it has a fun story, interesting characters, it has a good message and it's one of the most original movies of the year.
Like I already mentionned, the story was entertaining, it makes fun of corporations and the treatement of animals but it never becomes preachy, you can just see it as a simple fun action movie where a girl just wants to have her animal back.
However the last third of this film felt a bit inconsistent, it had a great and bittersweet ending but the tone of the film changes very quickly and it was very distracting.
The characters were also fun, the main character didn't really have any developement but she didn't need to because she was likable and determined which made me care for her and her goal, Okja was surprisingly adorable at times and they were scenes that made me feel very sorry for her. The other characters were over the top but really entertaining BUT the jake gyllenhaal character was atrocius, at first I thought the idea of the character was actually funny but as the film went along he became the most annoying character I've seen this year.
The film had it's flaws but it's honestly one of the better films I've seen this year for now, the story, the concept and the characters made this film one of the most entertaining movies of this year.
