Review of Of Mice and Men (1992) by Zane T — 13 May 2011
Back when Gary Sinise was just another character actor, he made this movie and it is actually better than the John Steinbeck story it is adapted from. Sorry, literary scholars, Steinbeck said he wrote the story as if it was a play and it reads like one.
Sinise directs the movie as if it is an actual story and you can feel George's frustration of having to take care of Lenny. Sinise has a nice role and John Malkovich does a good performance that isn't just another Simple Jack role.
The supporting cast of Ray Walston as the elderly Candy and John Terry as Slim make this movie good. Casey Siemaszko is perfect for the role of Curly and Sherilynn Fenn is nicely cast as his wife. I wished someone beside Noble Willingham had been cast as the Boss, because Willingham does the same role in every movie he's been in.
But still, it's a very well made adaptation of a literary classic.
