Review of Of Mice and Men (1992) by Radhika R — 20 Jul 2012
The story is set in the Depression era about two workers, the smart George Milton and the brutish Lennie Small who are searching for their "American Dream" and after they have been chased out of a county by a gang of ruffians.
After a long bus ride and a ten-mile walk, they come across a farm where they seek work. They meet Curley who is the boss' son and enjoys tormenting Lennie while Curley's wife entices Lennie with her sexual allure.
George tries to warn Lennie about Curley's wife because of her coloured dress and tells him to steer clear but Lennie follows her to a barn where a tragedy occurs and their American Dreams are lost.
The film itself stays true to the novel and moments that have changed slightly are similarly noticeable to the book. John Malkovich and Gary SInise were perfect choices for Lennie and George and as Gary SInise also directed this adaptation, he did a perfectly hard-working job in bringing this movie's elements together.
Based on the respected novel by John Steinbeck and as a fan of the book I studied back in high school this movie is worth high marks. Of Mice And Men gets a 10/10.
