Review of Odd Thomas (2013) by Laura I — 15 Jun 2014
Odd Thomas is a well made movie - startling special effects, excellent cinematography and perfect acting. The script is unusually true to the book. Everything essential to the story and characters is there; the few changes necessary for Hollywood are well done and don't abuse the original storyline.
Odd is a fascinating character - a young man who can see the dead and helps them find justice if their death was unnatural. He and his childhood sweetheart, Stormy, are deeply in love and she, along with the police chief, is one of the few people who knows Odd's secret.
The film, like he book, is an unusual mix of genres - part young adult romance, part horror thriller - that works surprisingly well. Just have some Kleenex nearby when you watch it.
