Review of Octopussy (1983) by Nick E — 15 Jul 2008
Moore's second last outing as Agent 007 before hanging up the Walther PPK and handing it to Timothy Dalton. Despite its somewhat suggestive title and Moore starting to look his age that bit more, "Octopussy" is an adventurous outing with action sequences in the air, within the jungle, on the streets of India, on the railway line, physical and verbal comedy (who would've known that Q could be one amazing field operative), and some terrific villains and women.
Maud Adams reprises her role as a Bond girl after appearing in "The Man With The Golden Gun" and enhances the on-screen chemistry between her and Moore. Kristina Wayborn looks absolutely stunning and even performs her own baulcony fall stunt. Never in the Bond series has there been a villain with a chain-saw operated like a yo-yo.
Louis Jourdan and Steven Berkoff bring justice to their roles as the villains keen to make sure Bond never lives to see another day. Those of you unaware Berkoff appeared as Victor Maitlan, the main villain in "Beverly Hills Cop" the following year.
Loaded with great sequences, incredible locations, a good selection of cast members (who knew that Moore would dress up as a gorilla and a clown in the same film? Gotta hand it to Bond for being resourceful) "Octopussy" is one of the films in the franchise which is a must-see.
