Review of Octopussy (1983) by John P — 27 Apr 2011
After a return to reality and a more compelling and believable story, the producers drag Bond back into Moonraker territory in this overlong and convoluted entry. Roger Moore and Maud Adams flirt like they're your parents, and the story has so much in it that halfway through, you forget why Bond is doing what he's doing.
Sure, it's funny. It's really funny. It's the most humorous Bond film, and unlike The Man with the Golden Gun or Moonraker, I laughed. But there's the problem. After such a return to (old) form in For Your Eyes Only, the sudden change to this is a disappointment. It would have been a decent swan song for Moore....
....But he had one more trick up his elderly sleeve.
