Review of October (Ten Days that Shook the World) (1928) by Tom C — 26 Feb 2009
A disappointment from Eisenstein. OCTOBER has some striking moments (the introduction of Lenin, the skirmish on and around the Neva River, the finale), but there's a lot of repetition going on here, and, because the characters are essentially non-existent, there's not much to get you through the duller stretches.
The Shostakovich score on the restored edition helps.
