Review of October (Ten Days that Shook the World) (1928) by Michael S — 20 Feb 2008
Again, the riot scenes are very well done, but the rest of the movie is boring. This is unfortunate because it is a historically interesting event. Unlike Potemkin, I believe October had something in the non-riot scenes, but it was too much to get across in a silent film.
With a lot of politics involved with historical backing, dialogue helps and October already had too many title cards as it was. Strike remains Eisenstien's best film and I believe a lot of its message gets across due to the juxtaposition.
