Review of October Sky (1999) by Asif K — 12 Aug 2010
Much like Glory this is one of those rare films that aim to inspire and be a feel-good movie and actually reaches the highs it aims for. Although the screenplay doesn't have anything new to it. It's the actors that make it work.
Jake Gyllenhaal in his first movie is terrifc and shows us the talent he would continue to show in Lovely and Amazing, Donnie Darko, Zodiac and Brokeback Mountain. The equally gifted Laura Dern has never been so heart warming in a role and Chris Cooper once again shines in his role.
It's one of those films that you fall in love with because even with it's hollywood glam you can still see the human hands the movie was made with. Believable, subtle, and consistently intelligent! I loved this movie, awsome.
inspiring.
