A wonderful, inspiring film, even more so for being based on a true story. Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Cooper are outstanding. As a teacher myself, I loved that their teacher played such a big part encouraging her students to fulfill their potential and their dreams.
October Sky also points out that our school system doesn't give enough opportunities for academically gifted students to win scholarships to college, certainly not as many scholarships as there are for students who play sports.
There should be more true stories like this one.
