Review of Ocean's Eleven (1960) by Kay B — 15 Jan 2010
I was a bit dubious of watching this movie. Here you have the Rat Pack, one of Hollywood's greatest exports, starring in a movie which makes its way outside of America. Will their in humour work outside of the circle, I think we can safely say yes.
Although today's audience might not find it as entertaining. Some might find some of the humour crude or racist, such as highlighting Sammy Davis Jr's skiin colour for laughs. This is a great bank robbery story which uses great music, sung by Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, but sometimes it can feel a little flat.
The beginning starts off a little hazy, you have job to find out whats going on and you begin to wonder why exactly things are introduced in this way. Don't get put off by this, its just the film setting up emotion and later on, it all makes sense.
All in all, 4 stars from me.
