Review of Ocean's Eight (2018) by Jake C — 17 Sep 2018
If only the rest of the movie was as good as its cast-you would think that with fewer cons each would have greater opportunity for characterization, but even this stellar lineup struggles to shine with this rote plot, mediocre script, and uninspired direction.
Even this review feels formulaic and perfunctory: Mention how cool the cast is, how they aren't working with much, but that the movie goes down easily enough despite its faults. The biggest fault, of course, where it all really goes south is with the heist itself, which goes off without a real hitch, builds little tension, and is quickly passed over for the movie's actual drama: An insurance investigation led by the unthreatening, ineffective Corden, who is no match for the likes of a Bullock or a Blanchett or a Bonham Carter.
