The film is an essential Italian Neo-realism movement piece and if it were not for its six year delay because of censorship and legal problems than it would have been responsible for the first film of the Neo-realism movement, instead of the highly acclaimed "Open City".
This film has inspired me as both a director and a cinematographer.
