A lot of the criticism this movie seems to be getting revolves around the dark , mean spirited humor. I, for one, dont mind when a comedy goes off the beaten path and offers up a slice of unabashed pessimism (think "Bad Santa").
There are laughs to be had when you can get an audience to react by saying "I cant believe they just said / did that". However, when you brush away the shock humor, ultimately....there wasn't quite enough left that reads as monumentally fresh or clever.
Thus, it falls significantly short of "instant classic" territory. Simply put, the world of Ronnie Barnhardt is all too forgettable.
