Review of O Lucky Malcolm! (2006) by Allen G — 01 Apr 2016
Not a particularly special biography, as it consists mostly of an interview with the man himself as well as some film clips, but McDowell's career has been an interesting one, and it's good to have a little more context to his work beyond just "that guy from a Clockwork Orange".
I didn't know much about McDowell going into this, but it turns out that he's played some interesting roles and, going by how he comes across here, he's a pretty interesting guy with a good sense of humour.
Still, this probably isn't going to appeal to anyone who isn't particularly interested in his career as, whilst interesting enough, there's nothing hugely engaging about his life story- no virgin births or three wise men here, I'm afraid.
It doesn't help that the film's format is quite low-key and in keeping with any kind of biopic that you'd find on, well, just about anyone. It would have been nice to see a more original approach taken here, as it might have spiced things up a bit. Still, if you'd rather not do some Wiki research, then spending some time hearing from McDowell himself isn't a bad option.
