Review of O (2001) by Bill T — 12 Sep 2009
Interesting take on Othello here, updated to modern times. Othello is now Odin, a up and coming High School basketball player who has a fabuloius girlfriend and some trusted confidantes, most especially Hugo, who starts putting vile thoughts into his head.
While I certainly give the filmmakers points for trying, there are definite flaws in this. Mekhi Pfifer is good as Odin and Josh Hartnett is great as Hugo (though he tries a bit too hard to be street and all), I didn't really care for Julia Stiles though, too bland. Although it tries to remain faithful to the book, there are still some flaws, and it really falls apart in the end unfortunately.
