Review of O (2001) by Jonathan B — 18 Oct 2010
I saw O in theaters upon it's long-delayed release, and own the DVD. I have always considered it to be one of the most intense, harrowing teen dramas ever made. Some may have trouble relating some of this violent content to teens, and translating Shakespeare (in this case, Othello) to another time and place is always going to be a bit of a delicate proposition, but the script and performances here are unforgettable.
The staging and dialogue really help you understand Hugo's motivations and how the tragedy escalates. A powerful film.
