Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Ana B — 14 Oct 2010
Biographical movie based on the teenage years of John Lennon. A rather troublesome and rebellious boy with a very peculiar family life: he was raised with his uncle and auntie and had very little contact with his mother that lived really close by. John finds out the reason why things turned out that way and comes to terms with it. This is, then, an emotional journey and also a love triangle between John his mother and his auntie Mimi.
It is a remarkable movie, it feels very real and truthful, not only because this really happened but, also, because of the good direction and the extraordinary performances of the main actors. Aaron Johnson nails his character and he even resembles the real John Lennon a little, Kristin Scott Thomas plays really well rigid but loving auntie Mimi and Anne-Marie Duff shines as free spirited but emotionally unstable mother.
Essential viewing if you are a fan of the man/musician.
