Review of Now You See Me 2 (2016) by Jeremy B — 05 Jul 2016
Now You See Me 2 is an awfully thin soup, particularly with a cast as distinguished as it has, and a $90 million price tag. To wit: the movie is set in exotic locales, but looks like it could have been filmed anywhere; a major plot twist is easily spotted (hint: if you know who's in the movie, you already know the twist); and there is more than one instance of "how did he/she get to a place that he/she had no way of knowing about?" There is some fun here, thanks to a cast that is at least having fun while slumming through the silliness, and the climax to the action is a pretty good one, but the end of the movie also undoes some of the more interesting character angles from the first film.
