Review of Notting Hill (1999) by Amanda C — 08 May 2011
Notting Hill has everything you want in a romantic comedy. Good looking and charming leads with quirky sidekick friends and an completely implausible, fantasy plot. As with any rom com there are lines of dialogue that are truly groan worthy, but those are minimal.
Julia Roberts is as charming and likeable as ever, with that fantastic smile and Hugh Grant actually manages to get a roll where he doesn't play a pompous ass, which is a nice change of pace. There's nothing spectacular or unexpected in Notting Hill, except for the one long take near the end of the film of Hugh Grant walking through the market which is quite impressive.
Notting Hill is, however, a sweet and rather enjoyable film.
